Charles is the Founder and Principal of the Law Firm, Charles Yuen & Associates. He is a fourth generation Australian Chinese who grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory of Australia. Charles graduated in law from the University of Adelaide, South Australia in 1977 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor to the Supreme Court of South Australia and High Court of Australia in 1978. He practiced law for over 40 years in South Australia, Hong Kong and Northern Territory and represented clients as both a barrister and solicitor in criminal, family, commercial litigation, personal injury and migration matters.
On 1 August, 2002, he established Charles Yuen & Associates, the first migration law practice in the Northern Territory. Since then, Charles has represented many clients for over 20 years with visa applications and appeals to the various migration tribunals and Federal Court.
Being a truly local Darwin resident, Charles has in depth knowledge of the social, cultural and business environment of Darwin and the NT. He is well known to the ethnic groups of Darwin as well as the local business community. He was on the Board of the NT Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce NT. While English is his first language, Charles also speaks fluent Cantonese and Mandarin.
Besides his Law qualifications obtained from the University of Adelaide (South Australia), he also has Post Graduate Qualifications in Education and is an English Specialist teacher. He has previously conducted preparation classes for over 600 English Test candidates attempting the tough IELTS and OET exams.
